In part five of the series, we will be discussing the unanticipated outcome of the war: the immediate, uncompensated emancipation of four million people. Selections include Frederick Douglass’ “Men of Color, To Arms.” Discussions will be led by Dr. Randall Fuller, author of ‘From Battlefields Rising: How the Civil War Transformed American Literature.” Essential readings are available at the branch. Presented by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.
