Event Type: History Age Group(s): Adult, For adults Date: 9/22/2012 Start Time: 10:00 AM End Time: 11:00 AM Description: The River Market began as Missouri's river landing for Eastern goods destined for Santa Fe. The market area became a real city after the Civil War when, in 1867, the Hannibal Bridge became the first bridge to cross the Missouri River. We will meet at the entrance of the Steamboat Arabia in the city market area (roughly 5th and Walnut) to begin this walking tour. We'll discuss the history of the area, tour the city market, and the recently built main street bridge which takes us across the railroad tracks to the river.
