This group will discuss the writing and publishing process with guest speakers and each other. Time will be set aside at each meeting to share your writing with other struggling authors. Meeting lasts 1 1/2 hours.

Come time travel with Ellen! We'll explore the Federal Census from 1790 to 1930, learning what our government thought was important about our ancestors, and how we can apply that information to our genealogy research.

Heritage Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is a way of preserving memories using photographs, printed media, memorabilia, and embellishments in decorated books. Heritage scrapbooking is a way of maintaining and recording family history in a creative way. Come and exchange ideas, get tips from guest speakers, and just have fun! Bring your own scrapbooking "stuff"! This program runs for two hours.

Dear Jane Quilt Group

"Dear Jane" is the name of a quilt made in 1863 by Jane A. Stickle. There are 225 different blocks in her sampler quilt. Come make your own version of "Dear Jane." It is said, "Jane's quilt is the mother of all quilts, and all of the quilts which we make are her babies." We invite all quilters and non-quilters to join us on the first Saturday of each month for 2 hours.

Hidden Treasures at MGC

Unlock the treasure chest that hold the resources at MGC. Hidden in the website are connections to databases, websites, and the MCPL catalog. Learn about the mechanics of research: loading microform machines, using book copiers, printing from the computers, and the scanning options available at MGC. Beginning Level.

Midwest Genealogy Center's Anniversary Celebration

600,000 Silent Voices: Were Your Ancestors There? Mine Were!

More than 620,000 men, women, and children died during the Civil War. Storyteller Jim "Two Crows" Wallen had 16 ancestors who served in the conflict. His program will focus on the people, not military or political actions. Speaking as his great-grandfather Chaplain William Maple of the 49th Indiana Infantry, he will tell the powerful stories of the women, children, and soldiers affected by the war, as well as discuss the prelude to war and the border war.

Beginning Genealogy Mistakes

Anna Mary Kersallen: Colonial Indentured Servant

Learn more about the birth of our nation through the stirring tale of Anna Mary Kersallen, an indentured servant who moved from England to America and became an American revolutionary figure. Barbara Hughes portrays Anna Mary through music, historic replicas, and a PowerPoint presentation.

St. Louis Research

Did you know that St. Louis is older than the United States? Do you know about the "great divorce," and what it means to genealogists? Taught by a native St. Louisan, this class is geared to beginning St. Louis researchers. We will explore the importance of St. Louis neighborhoods, along with lots of info on websites, church records, and some "insider" scoops on little-known facts about the "Gateway to the West." Youth Achievement Day: Computer Merit Badge

When: Saturday, June 22, 2013 - 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Where: Midwest Genealogy Center at Computer Lab

Computers have become necessary in our lives today. They are used in a lot of ways that you may not even be aware of. How did the technology develop over the years? This class will follow the history of computers and describe how they work. You MUST read the Computer merit badge booklet, bring a pen or pencil, and wear your Class "A" uniform. Make sure to bring signed blue cards. This will be presented as a two-session class running from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, which will allow for completion of the badge. A parent should plan to attend with their child.
