Homeschooling 101

Where: Grandview at Programming Room

Are you thinking about homeschooling, but don't know how to get started? This session is for you! An experienced home educator examines the benefits of teaching children and teens at home, explains Missouri Law, and discusses curriculum options. Information about local support groups and opportunities will be shared. Even if you're already homeschooling, this program can be helpful to you, too!

Storytime for Preschoolers

When: Tuesday, May 21, 2013 - 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM
Where: Grandview at Programming Room

Join staff as they present exciting and unique storytimes involving a variety of tried & true activities. Literacy-rich books and stories are shared to assist in developing pre-reading skills. Other enrichments may include music and movement, fingerplays, puppets and crafts. This is an all-around fun program for preschoolers, ages 3-5 years.

Join us for fun and fellowship as we discuss plots, characters, and styles in various books. Each book club does a different book, and registration is usually required, so we suggest patrons call the individual branches to reserve their spot and check out the upcoming titles.

Teen Advisory Group

When: Tuesday, May 28, 2013 - 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Where: Grandview at Programming Room

TAGs (Teen Advisory Groups), also known as TABs (Teen Advisory Boards), are groups of teens selected to serve as members because of their interest in providing a positive setting and comfortable environment for teens who visit the library. They help to plan, organize, and promote library programs that engage the interest of their peers. Through participation on a TAG, teens are provided the opportunity to take on a leadership role within their community. TAG members attend various events within their community, allowing them to gain knowledge of their community’s civic and social needs. Through a TAG, teens can share their perspective, show their creativity, and give a voice to the needs of teens that use the library.

Also, take a peek at their portable, mini-backyard zoo! It’s WildHeart bringing the heart of the wild, to the heart of the child.

"Beneath the Surface" Creative Photography Workshop

Whether you are a novice or an experienced shutterbug, this workshop is for you. Join us for a hands-on class covering photography basics and tips to enhance your skills. Bring your own digital camera or phone camera and usb cable, and we will view some of your creations at the workshop. There will be a camera available for loan during the workshop for those who do not own one.
