Sense-ational Storytime

These single session programs include a sensory-rich mix of songs, movement, a story, and a special book-related sensory activity. These storytimes require a participating caregiver for each child. Recommended for ages 3-8 years old.

Storytime for Babies

Where: Boardwalk at Programming Room

Join us for a fun, engaging Storytime for Babies. Designed to instill a foundation into early literacy through play and one-on-one interaction with a parent or caregiver.
Recommended for babies 9 - 18 months and a one-on-one caregiver. Registration required and limited.

Storytime for Preschoolers

When: Tuesday, May 21, 2013 - 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Where: Boardwalk at Programming Room

Join staff as they present exciting and unique storytimes involving a variety of tried & true activities. Literacy-rich books and stories are shared to assist in developing pre-reading skills. Other enrichments may include music and movement, fingerplays, puppets and crafts. This is an all-around fun program for preschoolers, ages 3-5 years.

Ginger Fried Rice

When: Tuesday, May 21, 2013 - 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Where: Boardwalk at Programming Room

This is one of the most delicious and versatile dinners of them all. One pot cooking and endless variations on the theme make this a family favorite everywhere. Learn what to keep on hand in the pantry to put this simple meal together on short notice, and hot tips for making the perfect pot of rice. You'll learn to cut the vegetables (onions, carrots, garlic, ginger, baby corn, celery, broccoli, and bell pepper) and how to work it all to perfection.

History's Mysteries

From the first farmers of ancient Mesopotamia, to the classical thinkers of Greece and Rome, the great explorers of Asia and the scientists of Europe's Reformation; walk the path of history and help us put the pieces of our giant time line together.
Join us each week this spring as we explore a different slice of world culture and history filled with fun facts you didn't know, hands-on activities and experiments, and much more!

Book discussions are a great way to meet other kids just like you! We’ll chat about great books and share ideas for other great reads with each another. There will always be fun activities and maybe even treats! Each discussion will be different, but you’re sure to meet some new friends.

For the Love of Reading

When: Monday, June 03, 2013 - 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Where: Boardwalk at Programming Room

Read aloud time can be quite traumatic for many early readers. Some children are just slow oral readers. In this group we help your child overcome their fears and become more confident about their newfound reading skills. Each child will have a turn at reading aloud every time we meet. We shall explore the definitions of those words new to their vocabulary. Also, we will have a brief period of discussion regarding the story.

Gather 'round the campfire and join storyteller Jo Ho as she takes you back to the good old days of story swappin' by the light of the moon. No goblins or ghosts, but globs of giggles in these outdoor woodsy tales. There will be howling galore with listeners yellin' "Tell me more!"

Boardwalk Writers: A Little Bit of NaNo All Year Round

Writing is a solitary art form, but the Boardwalk Branch has begun a writing group to provide support and encouragement for your writing process. Boardwalk Writers meet once a month to explore topics such as the writing life, generating ideas, the publishing process, achieving goals, and more. We also will share feedback on our writing. All brands of writers are welcome, so no matter what you write (memoir, fiction, romance, thrillers, children’s books, documentaries, or whatever), you can find a place in this group. The Boardwalk Writers try to maintain some of the wild creativity of National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo), while also learning by revising and rewriting.

Egyptian Dig!

Transport back in time to ancient Egypt with storyteller Jo Ho. She’ll be digging up tales of kings and queens, and crocodiles, too.
