Teen Advisory Group

Where: Grandview at Programming Room

TAGs (Teen Advisory Groups), also known as TABs (Teen Advisory Boards), are groups of teens selected to serve as members because of their interest in providing a positive setting and comfortable environment for teens who visit the library. They help to plan, organize, and promote library programs that engage the interest of their peers. Through participation on a TAG, teens are provided the opportunity to take on a leadership role within their community. TAG members attend various events within their community, allowing them to gain knowledge of their community’s civic and social needs. Through a TAG, teens can share their perspective, show their creativity, and give a voice to the needs of teens that use the library.

OverDrive: Downloading Digital eBooks for Nooks and Similar Devices for Teens

Learn how to use OverDrive to download digital eBooks from Mid-Continent Public Library’s collection onto your Nook or similar eReader. We will provide a general overview of checking out eBooks through OverDrive including hardware and software requirements, searching for a title, downloading, and transferring to a device. This program is a demonstration only and lasts approximately 90 minutes. Not all eReaders are compatible with OverDrive; please see www.overdrive.com/resources/drc to ensure device compatibility. "Beneath the Surface" Creative Photography Workshop

Young Artist Exhibition

Please participate in our Young Artist Exhibition. Entries will be displayed throughout our Summer Reading Program. Submissions will be accepted from May 13th-July 19th for youth ages 7-18 in the following categories: drawing, painting, mixed media, graphic art, and photography. Winners will be given awards. Mutants and Masterminds

When: Tuesday, June 18, 2013 - 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Where: Edgerton at Programming Room

Action! Adventure! Twenty-sided dice? If you have ever wanted to be a superhero, Edgerton Branch is giving you that chance with Mutants and Masterminds. During his six-week program, we will be playing this pencil and paper role-playing game where you make your own hero and battle a legion of foes with dice, a character sheet, and your imagination.

Anime Movie Night

Can Town

Come help us build a community and then feed our community with the first ever Parkville Can Town! Teens will engineer their own city out of donated canned foods, which will later be distributed to local food pantries.

DIY Recycled T-Shirt Scarf

Do you have some old T-shirts that you don’t want to part with? You can update your wardrobe by making a scarf! Bring in two thin T-shirts of different colors that go well together, beads or ribbons, and scissors. Size large or bigger work well. Come get creative with us and enjoy learning something new.

Where: Midwest Genealogy Center at Computer Lab

Computers have become necessary in our lives today. They are used in a lot of ways that you may not even be aware of. How did the technology develop over the years? This class will follow the history of computers and describe how they work. You MUST read the Computer merit badge booklet, bring a pen or pencil, and wear your Class "A" uniform. Make sure to bring signed blue cards. This will be presented as a two-session class running from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, which will allow for completion of the badge. A parent should plan to attend with their child.

Marshmallow Shooters

Did you know that miniature marshmallows are good for something other than hot chocolate? Join us as we make marshmallow shooters and then "duck and cover," as we use marshmallows for things that they were probably not meant to do. Materials fee of $1.
